MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) – The Vermont secretary of state’s office said it’s working with the Vermont Bar Association to get lawyers and law students to volunteer as poll workers during the November election.
Many of the people who traditionally volunteer as poll workers may not be able to do so in-person amid the coronavirus pandemic because they may be an at-risk population, said the secretary of state’s office this past week. Lawyers and law students who can volunteer in-person are asked to contact their town and city clerk offices to help fill those positions, officials said.
“Serving as a poll worker is integral to assuring a free and fair election this November, and lawyers are especially suited to help,” said Elizabeth Novotny, president of the state bar association. “This is an opportunity for lawyers, and soon-to-be lawyers, to step up and serve.”
