USC’s Kedon Slovis injured, Jaxson Dart shines in win over Washington State

USC freshman quarterback Jaxson Dart threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns after starter Kedon Slovis left early with a neck injury, as USC beat Washington State 45-14 in its first game since the firing of head coach Clay Helton.

Dart, who also threw two interceptions, set a USC record for passing yards by a quarterback in his debut. He also carried the ball six times for 32 yards.

Slovis was sacked on a third-and-12 during USC’s first possession of the game and was looked at by athletic trainers while down on the turf. He walked off the field on his own power but was ruled “likely out” for the second half, according to a USC spokesman.

After falling behind 14-0, the Trojans scored 45 unanswered points to earn interim head coach Donte Williams, who was tabbed to step in for Helton this week, his first win.
