USA Blue Defeats Finland 7-1 in First Game of the Day

Farabee doubled USA Blue’s lead less than a minute later when he picked up a loose puck, split Finland’s two defenders and slipped a backhanded shot through the legs of Patrikainen.

Sampo Ranta cut Finland’s lead to one with 1:38 left in the frame when he took a feed from Antti Saarela and beat Knight for his second goal in as many games.

The middle period started with Cam York (Anaheim, Calif.) giving USA Blue another two-goal lead exactly one minute into the frame. With Finland trying to clear its zone, Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) caught an errant puck at the blue line and slid it across to York who crept towards the slot before rifling a wrist shot into the top right corner.

Towards the midpoint of the frame, Beecher nearly made it 4-1 off a 2-on-1 with Parker Ford but his chance off the left-side was denied by the blocker of Patrikainen.

In the final minute of the second period, Farabee tallied his second goal of the game when he picked up a loose puck behind the net, curled towards the left faceoff dot and lifted a backhanded effort into the top-left corner.

Back-to-back goals from Beecher in the second-half of the third period made the score 6-1. His first goal came from a redirection off a shot by Krygier, his second assist of the game. Less than a minute later, Beecher fired home a pass from Spencer Stastney (Mequon, Wis.) for his third goals in two games.

Shane Pinto (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored with just over two minutes to go to cap the scoring for the U.S. After Jackson Lacombe (Eden Prairie, Minn.) received a pass from Krygier, he got by his defender and fired a shot on net. Pinto was able to put home the rebound on the far side.
