Up-Hill battle: Bucs fall way behind again, fall to Chiefs and Mahomes


TAMPA, Fla. — In the end, when the Bucs needed one stop to have any chance to pull off a wild comeback, again it was Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill, and there was nothing the defense could do to stop it.

On a third-and-7 with 1:15 left, Mahomes scrambled to his left and found Hill open on the sideline for an 8-yard conversion, allowing the Chiefs to close out a 27-24 win that shouldn’t have been that close.

The two hooked up on the first play of the day for 34 yards. Then they hooked up for a 75-yard touchdown, then a 44-yard score so easy he backflipped into the end zone, and before the first quarter was over, Hill had 203 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the Chiefs had a 17-0 lead.

That the Bucs (7-5) clawed back and made it interesting against the defending Super Bowl champs doesn’t matter after another slow start to dig a hole too deep for even Tom Brady and a talented offense to get out of.
