University of Kansas students want free barf bags, classes canceled after Super Bowl

University of Kansas students passed a resolution Thursday calling on the school administration to officially cancel classes on Monday or at the very least, provide free barf bags the day after the Super Bowl when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.

Tiara Floyd, student body president, said the resolution “is both serious and lighthearted,” The Kansas City Star reported.

It reportedly calls on Chancellor Douglas Girod to consider implementing health and safety measures for the day after Super Bowl Sunday.

“The Student Senate body would be woefully negligent of its duty to represent the student body by not advocating for a concern for the health of students given the inevitability of celebrations that may occur should the Kansas City Chiefs emerge victorious…,” the resolution said, The Star reported.

Ms. Floyd told the newspaper that the resolution was inspired in part by the aftermath of the Royals’ 2015 World Series win when many students skipped classes the next day and others showed up hungover.

“I hate to say this; people were vomiting in their backpacks,” she said. “That is a health issue.”

The resolution ultimately calls for classes to be canceled on Monday, but if they’re not, the students at least want free barfs bags placed in high-traffic areas around campus, The Star reported.

The university has not responded to their requests.
