Two More Horses Positive For EHV-1 At Remington; 100 Exposed

The Equine Disease Communication Center released the following update about the EHV-1 quarantine at Remington Park late Thursday:

A second horse in the quarantined barn has been tested positive by PCR for EHV-1; this horse is clinically normal and has not had a fever. A third horse in a different barn has also been tested positive by PCR; This horse is clinically normal and has not had a fever. The new barn has been quarantined. Approximately 100 horses have been exposed.

A horse stabled at Remington tested positive for EHV-1 last week, triggering a 14-day quarantine of its barn. The horse has been euthanized.

The New Mexico Racing Commission announced this week its tracks will not accept horses from Remington until further notice. Oaklawn Park also informed horsemen it would not permit horses (including pony horses) on its backstretch if they have stabled or raced at Remington since Nov. 12. That restriction will be in place until at least Dec. 19.
