Two-headed snake casually devours a pair of mice simultaneously

This is the moment a two-headed snake, known as Ben and Jerry, wolfed down two separate mice simultaneously.

The video clip was posted to Instagram by reptile enthusiast Brian Barczyk and shows Ben and Jerry using their two separate mouths to both enjoy a meal of dead mouse.

The California Kingsnake is one of 10,000 snakes born with two heads.

The condition is called bicephaly and it occurs from the incomplete splitting of an embryo.

It’s the same process that can lead to conjoined twins.

Most of the time, snakes with bicephaly don’t survive. But Ben and Jerry is a different story.

‘99.9% of two headed animals never see their first birthday, but once they survive to adulthood, which Ben and Jerry are, they usually live a full life, Barczyk told DailyMail.com in an email.

‘We expect them to live 20-25 years.’

Although Ben and Jerry can both eat separately, they have to share the same digestive system.

Apparently Barczyk, who works at a reptile zoo in Michigan in the US, bought the snake from a friend.

‘It is a freak of nature and totally unexpected. It took me 1 1/2 years of begging before he sold them to me,’ he told DailyMail.com.

Ben and Jerry may have spent their lives in captivity, but other two-headed snakes have been spotted in the wild.

Last year, a two-headed viper was discovered in the Kalyan district of Maharashtra state in India.

Identified as a Russell’s viper, the 4-inch reptile was safely removed and relocated by a snake expert.
