CHICAGO — Josh Donaldson was ejected after hitting a home run and the White Sox clinched their first playoff berth in 12 years after rallying late in what was an all-around strange contest.
Trailing by a run, Chicago pulled ahead in the seventh inning against Tyler Clippard and Sergio Romo to win for the third time in four tries in the series. José Abreu’s two-out infield single on a grounder to shortstop scored Jarrod Dyson, who singled off Clippard and then narrowly avoided being doubled off first base on Nick Madrigal’s liner to right field.
