Tua Tagovailoa, QB1: What went into Dolphins’ big decision to begin the Tua era?


Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020, is a date now etched into Dolphins history.

Tua Tuesday, Tagovailoa Takeover … whatever catchy phrase you can think of … make no doubt about it: Tuesday was Tua Time in Miami.

On this day, the Dolphins officially began the Tua Tagovailoa era, naming the fifth overall pick from this year’s NFL Draft as the team’s starting quarterback, news that was first reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Athletic. Tagovailoa takes over for Ryan Fitzpatrick, the 16-year NFL veteran who served as the rookie’s mentor and a placeholder in guiding the Dolphins to a 3-3 record as they begin their bye in Week 7.

The organization thought there wasn’t a better time to transition to Tagovailoa than now, a team source said. With the Dolphins in the middle of their bye, Tagovailoa now gets two weeks to prepare for the Rams.
