Triple Crown Nominations: 21 Colts, One Filly Made Eligible With Late Payment

Twenty-two 3-year-old Thoroughbreds were made eligible to compete in the 2020 Triple Crown with a late $3,000 payment that was due Wednesday.

With 22 late nominees during the extended late nomination phase (pending late mail), there are now 369 horses eligible to participate in the Triple Crown’s revised three race series: the 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes (Grade I) at 1 1/8 miles at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.; the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) at 1 ¼ miles on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.; and the 145th running of the Preakness Stakes (GI) at 1 3/16 miles on Oct. 3 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md.

The early nomination total was 347 at $600 per horse when it closed Jan. 25.
