To date, the Patriots have never given me the authority to make a personnel decision.
With six Super Bowls in nine appearances over the past two decades, their stance in that respect does seem to check out.
But as a writer, I must write, so I will offer a blueprint toward turning a seven-win team into a contender once again. The Patriots are projected to have about $60 million in cap space, which is the third-most in the NFL and more than twice as much as 26 teams — a disproportionate advantage over the rest of the league due to a shrinking cap, which will send 13 teams into the offseason already over the limit. They also have the No. 15 pick in the draft, so the resources are in place to make some noise.
OK, here’s part 1 of Howe to fix the Patriots. (Get it? It’s a pun.) Part 2, the non-QBs, will come on Tuesday.
