Brighton & Hove Albion are optimistic that their year-long pursuit of Stuttgart’s Argentina forward Nicolas Gonzalez is moving towards a successful conclusion.
Nothing is agreed and completing the deal will be challenging. Brighton tried to sign Gonzalez last summer for around £15 million but pulled out when Stuttgart’s asking price suddenly jumped to £20 million.
They will have to pay more than that to finally land Gonzalez, who is understood to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
Brighton face confirmed interest from Italian side Fiorentina. Tottenham have also been linked with the 23-year-old, currently playing for Argentina in the Copa America in Brazil.
Brighton and Fiorentina have made similar bids that, with additional clauses, amount to around £23 million.
