England ended their triumphant Test tour of South Africa on a rousing high, wrapping up a 191-run win at the Wanderers to clinch the series 3-1.

England won only their second away series in more than four years, having also beaten Sri Lanka 3-0 in November 2018.

Mark Wood wrapped up South Africa’s tail to finish with nine wickets in a match for the first time in his first-class career.

His nine for 100 are the best figures by an England bowler overseas since Monty Panesar’s 11 for 210 in Mumbai in 2012, and best by a seamer since Ryan Sidebottom took 10 for 139 in Hamilton in 2008.

Until 2019, Wood had 30 Test wickets at an average of 41.73, and since then has 18 at 14.22.

The 30-year-old has taken seven per cent of his first-class wickets in the last two weeks.
