Tony Romo fires two-under-par 70 at Safeway Open to keep dream of making cut alive

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback turned CBS broadcaster Tony Romo just fired his career-best round in a PGA Tour event: a two-under-par 70 at the Silverado Resort & Spa’s North Course.

Romo’s round began with a bang on the 10th hole (his first hole of the day), which he birdied after draining a 50-footer to go one under through one. Three pars followed, and then a failure to get up and down after a missed approach into the right greenside bunker on No. 14 resulted in a bogey.

Romo steadied himself with pars on 15, 16 and 17, and then got back to one under at the turn when he converted a short birdie putt on the par-5 18th. Two more pars followed on Nos. 1 and 2, and then Romo suffered back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4 after missing the green in regulation and failing to get up and down. At one over par on the day with five holes to play, Romo’s game kicked into gear, and he lit up the remaining holes, birdying the par-5 5th, parring 6 and 7, and finishing with back-t0-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9. The birdie on 8 included draining a highlight-reel-ready 20-footer.
