Toni Kroos will MISS Real Madrid’s must-win season finale against Villarreal after testing positive for Covid in blow to their faint LaLiga title hopes

  • Toni Kroos is having to quarantine after returning a positive Covid-19 test 
  • Real Madrid midfielder will not be able to play again this season for his side

  • They must win and hope Atletico Madrid slip up if they are to win the league 

Toni Kroos will miss will miss Real Madrid‘s final game of the season as he will be in coronavirus quarantine. 

Real face Villarreal on Saturday to close out the campaign and must win, hoping Atletico Madrid lose away at Valladolid and throw away the title. 

Kroos has been one of Zinedine Zidane’s most important players this season and already missed Sunday’s 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in isolation.

Originally it was a precaution as the German had come into direct contact with someone who had coronavirus. 

But having gone into isolation last Friday, he has now found out he contracted the illness himself.

‘Real Madrid announce that our player, Toni Kroos, tested positive in the COVID-19 test he underwent today,’ a club statement said on Monday evening. 

‘Kroos has been in isolation since Friday, May 14, after having come into direct contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.’

There is no suggestion that he is suffering from serious symptoms.

Real are two points behind fierce rivals Atletico after Luis Suarez’s dramatic late winner against Osasuna kept his side in control of their destiny. 

The stage is set for a thrilling final day in LaLiga, although Barcelona are out of the title race having fallen away in the last fortnight. 

Kroos will have to watch his team-mates attempt to take care of their side of the bargain and hope Diego Simeone’s men slip up.
