Tiger Woods defends at Zozo Championship: Odds to win and best prop bets

Defending champion Tiger Woods fronts a 78-man field at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, this week for the 2020 Zozo Championship.

Woods, and many others in the field, will be playing for the final time ahead of the upcoming Masters, Nov. 12-15, at Augusta National Golf Club. While his 2019 Zozo Championship win was in Japan, Woods couldn’t pick a better location to defend his tournament crown. The 82-time PGA Tour winner has five victories and an additional five runner-up finishes at Sherwood.

Below, we look at Tiger Woods’ odds to win the Zozo Championship and his most interesting prop bets.

Tiger Woods’ odds to win

Odds provided by BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 10:07 a.m. ET.

Woods is +3300 to win the Zozo Championship and shares the 13th-best odds with six others. He enters the week 24th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings and is the 19th-best player in the field by that measure.

There is adequate value here, as Tiger is just +2500 to win the Masters next month in an event that will receive far more public attention.

Go ahead and bet Tiger Woods (+3300) to win the 2020 Zozo Championship. He remains in search of his record-breaking 83rd PGA Tour win and has as good an opportunity as ever at Sherwood CC.

Best props on Tiger Woods

To finish in the top 5 (+600)

There’s some decent value here with the insurance of a top-5 finish. Thirteen golfers have lower odds. Woods’ best result of 2020 thus far was a T-9 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open in late January.

Top American (+2000)

The top threat for this pool prop in Dustin Johnson withdrew from the tournament Monday afternoon. Three of the top-six betting favorites to win the Zozo – Jon Rahm, McIlroy and Tyrrell Hatton – are European. This leaves Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and Webb Simpson as Woods’ top competition from the USA.

Of this group, only Simpson has professional experience at Sherwood. Back Woods and his 3.68 strokes gained per round at this course, according to Data Golf.

Lowest score (72 holes) Group C (+400)

Woods is grouped with Bubba Watson (+400), Matthew Fitzpatrick (+350), Patrick Cantlay (+300) and Viktor Hovland (+320) and shares the longest odds with Watson.

Watson enters in the best form off of a T-7 finish at last week’s CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek while Fitzpatrick and Hovland both finished T-12. Of the group, only Cantlay (No. 11) and Hovland (No. 18) are ranked higher in the Golfweek rankings.

It’s a fine value for Tiger with none of these other four golfers priced significantly lower by the odds to win the tournament.
