Three observations from Rockets win: Russell Westbrook puts on a show, Zion-less Pelicans are fun to watch and more


HOUSTON – There was confetti.

There were fans enjoying the postgame frivolity who hung around the Toyota Center long after the Houston Rockets notched their first win of the Russell Westbrook era in fitting fashion: He had a triple-double (28 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) in the 126-123 victory over New Orleans on Saturday night. In the interest of full disclosure, the postgame party had everything to do with the fact that the World Series was being aired on the Rockets’ massive jumbotron when the Astros’ Alex Bregman hit a grand slam off Washington’s Fernando Rodney in the seventh inning and the Game 4 rout was on.

Call it a Houston win-win.

On the other side, there were all sorts of reasons for the Zion Williamson-less Pelicans to be both encouraged (Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart) and frustrated (they’re 0-3).
