Thousands in New Zealand kick off new climate change marches

Another wave of worldwide climate change protests kicked off in New Zealand on Friday, one week after the Global Climate Strike happened around the world.

New Zealand protesters marched on Parliament in the country’s capital of Wellington. Thousands of other New Zealanders participated in Auckland and other parts of the country. The Hague in the Netherlands also saw sizable crowds.

Over 100,000 people packed the streets of Rome, and in Berlin, thousands more battled the rain to protest a climate package that was passed by the German government last week. German climate activists believe the legislation falls well short of what is needed.

Actor Javier Bardem joined protesters in San Sebastian, Spain, according to an Associated Press report.

Activist Greta Thunberg will be part of a demonstration in Montreal Friday.

She tweeted about large crowds expected in Madrid and Barcelona.
