Thompson: One-on-one with Steve Kerr and the lessons he’s learned in a challenging year with the Warriors

Steve Kerr, back in the Bay after the final road trip of the regular season, spent the off day golfing. The Warriors’ head coach shot a 72.

“I had a great day,” he said after a chuckle.

Meaningful context: 72 was his score through 15 holes. He had to skip the last three holes to make it on time for his COVID-19 test at Chase Center. So his score from Wednesday didn’t count the strokes he would’ve accumulated on hole Nos. 16, 17 and 18. But, hey, he’s got to take his victories where he can get them.

Kerr is feeling similarly good about his team. There are still six games left, then the play-in tournament in all likelihood, and then a potential postseason, before an ever-so-important offseason. But the first 66 games have been a revealing emotional roller coaster.
