The Blue Jays have seen two versions of Tyler Chatwood this season.

Through his first 16 outings, he had a 0.53 ERA, with a 38.1 percent strikeout rate. He had five walks to 24 strikeouts in the 17 innings. But in his last three outings — 3 1/3 innings — he has six earned runs on three hits with nine walks and zero strikeouts. Throwing strikes has lately alluded Chatwood, who has struggled with sporadic command in his career.

Exactly a week from the day Chatwood first noticeably struggled with his command in an appearance against the Tampa Bay Rays, he again couldn’t find the strike zone Sunday against Cleveland in the second game of a doubleheader. He walked five in 1 1/3 innings. Of his 32 pitches thrown, only seven were strikes.

A lot went wrong for the Blue Jays in that sixth inning before Chatwood entered the game.
