In heaven, Big John smiles. He smiles because his team sits atop the Big East again, and because his grand plan worked. It was John Thompson Jr., after all, who suggested to Patrick Ewing that he apply for the Georgetown head coaching job after the school booted his own son. Thompson smiles too, because Ewing, his beloved player and near third son, led the Hoyas back to the mountaintop.
But the coach, who never believed a basketball game’s meaning ended with the final score, also could appreciate the beauty of irony. And there’s no way he’s not enjoying this karmic ass kicking.
