After years of waiting, Avatar: The Last Airbemder fans finally have something to look forward to. While some may have been eagerly awaiting the upcoming live-action TV show from Netflix, the majority of the fanbase have been waiting to see what the newly created Avatar Studios has up its sleeve. Now, it has been revealed that there are currently three animated films set in the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe currently in production. While little is known about the story that these movies will tell, they will surely usher in a new era for the classic animated world.

While the Avatar series has always done well in the TV landscape, it has struggled to make a mark in the video game industry. The world of Avatar seems like the perfect fit for a video game franchise based off it, but so far it has found little success. Avatar Has Not Had the Best Video Game Track Record

Over the years, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra have received multiple video games set in the universe. These games have ranged from full-on console titles like The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender The Burning Earth, to countless web-based games. While some of these games have provided decent fun for fans, the majority of them have never really captured the essence of the series. Almost all of them have been met with mixed reception, and some of them can no longer be purchased.

Some of the most well known Avatar based games come in the form of PlatinumGames The Legend of Korra and THQ’s Avatar: The Last Airbender. Both games told stories in-between seasons of the show and put players in control of the respective Avatars. These games may have come the closest to capturing the feel of being the Avatar, but the games still fell short of being what the franchise deserves. The franchise has also appeared in many Nickelodeon crossover games, but there has been no Avatar focused video game since 2014.

It is Time for a New Era of Avatar Games

With the release of the three upcoming movies from Avatar Studios, as well as the live-action show; there has never been a better time for more Avatar games. The Avatar franchise is filled with stories just waiting to be told and adventures to be had, the gaming industry just needs to be given the green light. Some games have already come close to capturing the essence, and now is the time that they go all the way. Not only would fans of the franchise finally have some quality games to check out, but it would also be a great way to pull in even more fans to the growing universe.

There are many studios that could craft some exciting Avatar focused titles if given the chance. PlatinumGames has already shown that it can make a decent Legend of Korra focused title, and now is the time to let the studio try again. Maybe once Respawn is done with Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, it will want to explore a completely different universe with Avatar. The Dynasty Warriors team could also take a crack at it and make a Last Airbender Warriors title, it could be a lot of fun. There are so many options for Avatar games, and the fan base is just waiting to explore their favorite world.

The Avatar universe is about to get a lot bigger once the animated movies start coming out, and now is the time for it to come back to the video game world. There are many studios that could take a stab at it, and many genres that Avatar could fit. The franchise is about to be in the limelight again, and now is the perfect time for Avatar: The Last Airbender to stake a claim in the video game industry.
