The statistics that explain why the 2021 Giants aren’t hitting (and why the slump won’t last)

The Giants are 8-4, which is their best start since 2016 and tied for their seventh-best start since moving to San Francisco.

The Giants have five — five! — regulars hitting .160 or worse. Their .207 team batting average is the third-worst through 12 games in San Francisco Giants history.

One of these things has to change. While it would be incredibly fun to watch a team win 108 games while swinging as if there were an invisible piñata dangling above home plate, either the Giants will start hitting or they’ll start losing. They won’t get one without the other.

While it’s early, and sample-size goblins are in the walls and the crawlspace, we can still look at some team-wide stats to figure out what’s changed.
