The Original Cakerie to expand Ontario plant

ST. PAUL, MINN. — The Original Cakerie, a division of Dessert Holdings, is planning to expand its London, Ont., manufacturing plant. Construction is scheduled to begin later this fall and is expected to be completed by fall of 2020. The project will add 100 additional jobs over the next year.

Founded in 1979, The Original Cakerie produces frozen desserts for retail and food service customers across Canada and the United States. Products include layer cakes, bars and brownies, which are manufactured at the London facility and at another plant in Delta, B.C. The expansion will add a new building onto the existing structure in London, plus new production lines.

“In the last four years, we have experienced sizeable growth as demand for our premium, innovative products remains strong with our existing customers, and we continue to add new customers as well,” said Paul Lapadat, chief executive officer of Dessert Holdings. “We have made significant investments over the last three years, which have allowed us to meet this demand, and this additional capacity will enable us to continue doing so in a category that is expected to maintain strong growth. We are excited to invest in our facility and work with the community to set the stage for a great future.”
