The New Queer as Folk Trailer Is Giving Us a Lot of Gay Feelings


The wait is almost over for a new generation of Queer as Folk, and if the official trailer is any indication, the Peacock series has an embarrassment of gay riches in store when it premieres on June 9. Drag queens and gender-bending performers with enviable eye makeup? Oh, yes. Butches and femmes and grand dames serving sufficient tea for an all-nighter? You bet. Did we mention that Kim Cattrall wears a floral silk robe?

We already know the New Orleans-set reboot is stacked with queer actors in queer roles, including stars Devin Way, Fin Argus, Jesse James Keitel, CG, Johnny Sibilly, and Ryan O’Connell. And an early teaser promised a return to Babylon, the famed nightclub where it’s always raining glitter and every trick knows your name (or will eventually).

Now we’re getting a fuller look into the series, which begins with a tragedy that rocks the community. In an incident that seems inspired by the devastating Pulse shooting, a gunman enters their favorite club, setting off chaos from which the characters work to recover. It’s a reckoning with the violence queer people too often face, and what appears to be a jumping-off point for resilience.

True to queer folks’ talent for finding joy despite adversity, there are plenty of gay (as in happy) tidings in the trailer, too. Here are the gayest things about the Queer as Folk trailer, and our gay feelings about them.
