The NBA’s most lethal scorers, Part 2: Awesome screeners and why post scoring isn’t dead


Scoring! Everybody is doing it! Well, not the New York Knicks but everybody else is doing it these days.

Efficient, high-volume scoring is tough to find in the NBA. As we’ve seen in plenty of examples throughout NBA history, it’s rare to find a player trying to beat the best schemes and defensive attention in the NBA over and over again while still maintaining a high level of efficiency. When you can find that level of scoring, it generally comes off historic on many levels.

On Thursday, I highlighted isolation scoring and scoring as a pick-and-roll initiator. Today, I want to touch on three other categories: pick-and-roll big men, post scoring (yes, it still exists!), and transition opportunities.

Synergy mostly does a good job of tracking this stuff. Although, it’s worth noting that these play logging services aren’t perfect and can have plenty of holes in how things are logged. Like with any data, they should be taken with a grain…
