‘The little guy had 37.’ Why the Heat’s Tyler Herro is not a rookie anymore


Jimmy Butler warned Miami Heat fans early in the season: “You guys are going to love Tyler Herro.”

If fans aren’t head over heels in love with the 20-year-old rookie after his 37-point performance put the Heat one victory shy of reaching the NBA Finals, well, then they must be Boston Celtics fans.

Herro’s 17-point fourth quarter and phenomenal shooting night (14 of 21 from the field and 5 of 10 from 3-point range) catapulted the Heat to a 112-109 victory Wednesday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. From a broader view, he did a little more than that. He justified everything we’ve been hearing his teammates and coaches say about him all year.

That his best was yet to come. That he’s more than a bucket.

Now, we know Herro is the kind of player who can handle the pressure of the NBA’s biggest stage and play more than sidekick.
