The Heat don’t need any more of the “headache” that Dion Waiters has become

MIAMI — As a 12-year-old playing basketball on the playgrounds in his hometown of Philadelphia, Dion Waiters earned the nickname “Headache.”

The veteran Heat guard who turned 28 this past Tuesday continues to give his team the wrong kind.

And as such, the relationship between Waiters and the franchise now may be damaged beyond repair.

Waiters, who earned the “headache” moniker in his youth for calling for the ball at an annoying rate, was suspended without pay for six games according to a statement released by the team late Thursday night.

This marks his third suspension since the start of the season, a season in which Waiters has yet to see the floor in a real Heat game.

The Heat cited a “failure to adhere to team policies, violation of team rules and continued insubordination” as the reason for this one. For example, Waiters was seen eating popcorn on the Heat bench during their game against the Raptors on Dec.
