The Giants’ breakout starting pitcher this season? It might be Tyler Beede

A year ago at this time, major league players were captive to uncertainty. They didn’t know if there would be a season over the summer or, if they played, how many games would be on the schedule. They didn’t know how safe the protocols would be. They didn’t know if they would lose a year of their professional lives.

Tyler Beede’s uncertainty was a bit narrower. Would his wife, Allie, let him take over the garage with his gym equipment?

“I was like, ‘Hey, you can still park the car in the other half,’” Beede said in a phone interview over the weekend. “She was cool with it. And slowly over time I kept filling it up with more stuff and took over both sides. And she said, ‘OK, I guess this is how it’s going to be.’”

Beede knew there wouldn’t be a season for him in 2020.
