Darius Slay made no excuses about his performance after the Eagles’ 23-17 loss to the Seahawks. DK Metcalf might be the best wide receiver in the league, but Slay’s job was to limit the damage Metcalf did to the Eagles defense. Instead, the second-year receiver caught 10 passes for a career-high 177 yards.

“I let the team down,” Slay said during his postgame Zoom session. “I told the defense, that game was on me. I have to play better, but props to DK for giving me the good work. We are competing every play, but I lost every 50/50 ball and I have to be better.”

On a night when the offense was characteristically impotent, the Eagles’ best chance to win relied on a dominant defensive performance. They almost got it, with spirited fourth-down stops, steady tackling and frenzied rallies to the football.
