The Celtics signed Jabari Parker to replace Moe Wagner, what are they getting?

The Moe Wagner era has ended. Enter Jabari Parker.

The Celtics agreed to sign the former second overall pick to a two-year deal Friday and will waive the recently acquired Wagner, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports. Wagner does not have a landing spot yet and will continue to look for another spot in the league, per a league source, and Brooklyn did just open up a new roster spot for a big with the unfortunate health retirement of LaMarcus Aldridge.

This Parker signing is a fascinating transaction considering Parker couldn’t even hold down a roster spot on the Sacramento Kings while Wagner was starting for the Washington Wizards this year.

But from a roster balance standpoint, it makes perfect sense. Luke Kornet has cemented his place as the third center in Boston’s big man rotation, the ideal pick-and-pop complement to Rob Williams’ aerial potency and Tristan Thompson’s paint power.
