The Canadiens are on a run that has a weirdly special feel to it and it has become impossible to ignore


There are no comparisons to be made here.

Yes, this is as close to a Stanley Cup Final the Canadiens have been since they last won the Cup in 1993 (I’m not counting them being down 3-2 to the Rangers in 2014 because they never led that Eastern Conference finals series), but there’s no reason to compare what these Canadiens are doing to what those Canadiens did.

No, what’s happening here is starting to feel quite special, because special things are happening to these Canadiens.

Weirdly special things.

After the Canadiens beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime Friday to a take a 2-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup semi-final, Phillip Danault was asked a very straight forward question.

Does he find this team special?

“Yes, really,” he replied. “My team is special.”

How else could you describe what happened in this pivotal Game 3? The Canadiens did not deserve to be in overtime.
