The Analytical Lookaround: The Anthony Davis take over has begun

At the start of the playoffs, many (most notably Charles Barkley on “Inside the NBA”) opined that for the Lakers to win the championship, it was going to have to be on the back of Anthony Davis. With Los Angeles up 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals (in no small part because of Davis’ heroics) and 10-2 overall in the postseason, that is largely what has happened. More interesting is the manner in which Davis has done so.

For much of Davis’ career, he has been nearly there. After coming into the league with far more prominent defensive potential than offensive (his Usage Rate in his lone college season was only 18.8 percent, making him easily the most productive low-usage…
