Tens of thousands of sports bars could be lost this year as fans remain home


Tony Wilson misses the sports bar atmosphere for NFL games, but he’s not going back until there is a COVID-19 vaccine or the government gives an official all-clear for the wildly contagious and deadly illness.

Wilson, 35, and his family have traded their fall tradition of Sundays watching their beloved Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Maumee, Ohio, near Toledo for store-bought beer and frozen chicken wings at home.

“The new normal for us is NFL Sunday Ticket in the basement,” Wilson said. “It sucks, to be honest. We’re not doing any dining indoors. I don’t feel the experience will be the same. It’s not the same atmosphere. It’s a super lame version of it. It’s enough for now (at home) and as long as I can watch the games, I am pretty happy.”
