Tefaf New York to return next spring

Tefaf normally holds two New York fairs in the Park Avenue Armory

Tefaf announced today its New York spring event will return to the Park Avenue Armory in May 2022, nearly two full years after the coronavirus forced the cancelation of both the US editions last year. The event will be held from 7-11 May, with a VIP preview on 6 May.

“We are devoted to offering a unique fair experience in New York, one of the most prestigious and vibrant art markets in the world,” Charlotte van Leerdam, Tefaf Managing Director, said in a statement. “While Tefaf Maastricht will continue to champion 7,000 years of art history, we look forward to hosting Modern and Contemporary fairs in New York for years to come.” As with previous spring editions, the 2022 event will showcase post-war art alongside jewellery, antiques and design.

Last year, Tefaf New York Spring was postponed due to the coronavirus. The original plan was to combine the Spring and Fall fairs in October, but the later edition had to be cancelled too as travel restrictions and a stringent reopening plan for businesses in New York made holding in-person fairs all but impossible. There is no word yet on whether Tefaf New York Fall will also make a comeback in 2022.

The original Dutch fair, Tefaf Maastricht, usually held in March and initially rescheduled to May, is now due to take place from 11-19 September. It will be the first in-person event since an outbreak of the coronavirus closed the 2020 edition early.
