Teddi Mellencamp’s estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, posted a cryptic message via social media after the pair’s divorce news went public.
Arroyave, 47, shared a series of passages from multiple Bible verses that highlighted children and being a parent on Monday, November 4, via his Instagram Story. Arroyave and Mellencamp, 43, share three children: Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 4. (He is also the father of daughter Isabella, whom he welcomed in a previous relationship.)
“As parents, you have the power to speak life or death to your children and over your children,” read the highlighted passage from Proverbs 18:21. “When you choose to speak the Word of God over your children, you are choosing to speak life over them.”
He also featured an excerpt from Romans 12:2 that read, “My children are not conformed to this world system, but they are constantly being transformed by the renewing of their mind that they might know what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of God for their lives.”
In a subsequent Story, Arroyave posted a full page of verses including Psalm 127:3, 1 Corinthians 6:18-19, Exodus 20:12, Daniel 1:4 and more.
“My children are in whom there is no blemish, but they are well favored,” read the quote from Daniel 1:4. “They are skillful in wisdom, cunning in knowledge and understand science. They have the ability to stand in the king’s palace and teach others.”
Arroyave did not provide any additional commentary on the quotes, but the timing of the messages comes shortly after he and Mellencamp made headlines for their split.
Us Weekly confirmed that Mellencamp filed for divorce on Friday, November 1. According to court docs obtained by Us, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum listed their date of separation as October 20.
Four days later, on October 24, Mellencamp and Arroyave attended the Cure Melanoma Gala in New York City together. Mellencamp, who has had 16 melanoma surgeries over the years, was the event’s emcee, and Arroyave gushed over how proud he was of her.
“I always say life and pain are inseparable,” he wrote via Instagram. “And to see @teddimellencamp embrace her pain and use it for the greater good again last night as she emceed the @curemelanoma gala, was a beautiful reminder of what she is capable of. Her story has already saved lives. And I couldn’t be prouder that she will continue to save more.”
