Team USA Falls, 5-3, to Canada as Comeback Comes Up Short

Neither team would score in the second period despite a number of quality opportunities for Team USA. The U.S. outshot Canada, 13-9, in the middle frame including a flurry of chances in the final minute.

The U.S. broke through in the opening minutes of the third period after Kendall Coyne-Schofield (Palos Heights, Ill.) redirected Cayla Barnes’ (Eastvale, Calif.) shot from the blue line past Canada goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer to make it a 3-1 game.

Clark tallied her second goal of the day at the 8:48 mark of the final stanza to regain Canada’s three-goal lead, but Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) buried a feed from Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) past Maschmeyer moments later to make it a 4-2 game.

Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.) put away Team USA’s second power-play goal of the day with under 10 minutes to play to pull the U.S. within a goal of the Canadians. Pannek received a pass on the left faceoff dot and fired a shot past Maschmeyer.

Clark completed the hat trick minutes later to make it a 5-3 game. After battling for the puck at the blue line, Clark poked it past Burt for the final goal of the contest.

NOTES: Team USA will take on Canada on December 14 in Hartford, Conn. in the first game of the Rivalry Series. Tickets can be purchased here…Coyne Schofield led the U.S. with two points on the afternoon, netting a goal and an assist.
