Tarkowski has made his position clear, now he and Burnley must get on with it


There was frustration. There was understanding. Surprise, anger, acceptance. A quiet Wednesday lunchtime suddenly got more lively. 

In his interview with The Daily Telegraph earlier this week, James Tarkowski spoke openly about turning down two contract offers from Burnley, the first just over a year ago and the second following the close of the transfer window last month. The 27-year-old outlined that, as things stand, he has no interest in signing a new contract with the club. He wants to control his own future and will move on when his deal expires at the end of next season. 

There may have been a mixture of emotions from the Burnley fanbase but there was little shock at what Tarkowski said. He is one of the club’s top players, there has been plenty of interest in him and the player has spoken about testing himself at the highest level.
