The Cardinals did what they were supposed to do over a four-game stretch in the desert. They took the series handily over a reeling Diamondbacks squad, winning the first three games before dropping a lackluster 9-2 dud Sunday, snapping both a four-game win streak and Arizona’s 13-game losing streak.

The series highlighted trends, some encouraging and some concerning, that ultimately will dictate the moves the Cardinals need to make before the trade deadline if they hope to compete in October. Player injuries have risen this season across MLB, and the Cardinals certainly are no exception. They will be without Harrison Bader for at least one more week,
