Tafur: When is the Jim Harbaugh to the Raiders news conference? Let’s pump the brakes a little

Rich Bisaccia will sit down with Raiders owner Mark Davis on Wednesday afternoon to make his case to remove the interim tag and stay on as the full-time head coach. Of course, according to many, it may be uncomfortable in the room thanks to the large maize and blue elephant.

Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh has been rumored to be coming to Las Vegas to coach the Raiders for weeks now. After all, the Michigan coach had success coaching in the NFL with the 49ers — where he had a 44-19-1 record in four seasons with three trips to the NFC Championship Game — and was the quarterbacks coach for the Raiders as recently as … 2003. Once a Raider, always a Raider, Davis likes to say.

The Raiders, obviously, have a coaching opening after Jon Gruden’s resignation in October. Bisaccia took over and the Raiders went 7-5 with him in charge, including four straight wins to close the regular season to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. They were knocked out in a 26-19 wild-card loss to the Bengals on Saturday.

While Bisaccia and the rest of the coaching staff still has a chance to return, they would feel a lot better about their chances if Davis hadn’t fired general manager Mike Mayock on Monday.

So … when is Harbaugh’s introductory news conference?

There are a couple of snags.

One, the Raiders would have to interview him first. And a bigger one, they would have to show an interest.
