Suns' Chris Paul won't represent Team USA at Tokyo Olympics

Phoenix Suns star guard Chris Paul understandably seems to have other things on his mind than the upcoming Summer Olympics that will be held in Tokyo.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that Paul will not represent Team USA in this year’s Olympics. Wojnarowski added USA Basketball expected to learn of this development “for several days,” as Paul’s Suns opened the Western Conference Finals against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday and, entering Tuesday night, were three wins away from playing in the NBA Finals.

Paul, who turned 36 years old last month, won Olympic gold with Team USA in 2008 and 2012 but opted against playing in the 2016 summer tournament. His status for the series against the Clippers remains up in the air, as he will miss at least the first two games after he tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

Game 3 between the clubs is Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Despite Paul’s absences, BetOnline.ag has given him the third-best odds among candidates to win NBA Finals Most Valuable Player next month.
