Suns’ Chris Paul available to play Game 3 vs. Clippers

Where did the Suns miss Paul?

Jovan Buha, staff writer: The Suns missed Paul offensively, particularly in Game 2, when their struggles nearly cost them the game. The Suns’ offense is predicated on having two ballhandlers — Paul, Booker and Cam Payne — on the floor at all times to attack the defense with strong- and weak-side pick-and-rolls and isolations.

Without Paul, the best playmaker of the group by a solid margin, the offense lacked the consistent vigor that it had at its peak in the Denver sweep. His timely return makes the Suns even larger favorites.

What this means for Payne

Buha: He moves back to the bench, his natural role. He’s proven he can shoulder a larger offensive burden against both the Lakers and Clippers, which is a luxury for the Suns.

Instead of going up against the Clippers’ starting unit, Payne can now feast on the Clippers’ porous bench units. If Paul isn’t himself physically yet because of his week-long absence, Payne is capable of playing more minutes and assuming a larger role.
