Strawberry Moon meaning: What is the meaning behind the June Full Moon's name?

The Cold Moon in December, for instance, was named after the arrival of winter.

The Pink Moon in April, on the other hand, is said to be named after a ground phlox – a type of pink flower that springs at that time of the year.

In the case of the Strawberry Moon, it is believed this Full Moon informed Native American gatherers wild strawberries would soon be ripe for picking.

Amy Nieskens of the Old Farmer’s Almanac explained: “Algonquin tribes knew this Moon as the time to gather ripening strawberries.

“In places where strawberries aren’t native, this Moon was also known as the Rose Moon and the Hot Moon.”
