‘Storybook’: Nolan Arenado writes the perfect chapter in his introduction to Cardinals fans at Busch Stadium


ST. LOUIS — Intense in everything he does, Nolan Arenado perfectly epitomizes what it means to play baseball in St. Louis.

The passion. The drive. The determination. It’s in his DNA. And it was on full display Thursday afternoon in the bottom of the eighth inning of the Cardinals’ home opener. Arenado stepped into the box with a runner on and his team deadlocked with Milwaukee, ready to make a statement in his new ballpark.

With eyes laser-focused, and with every hint of foreshadowing unabashedly scripted, he came out first-pitch swinging against Brewers reliever Drew Rasmussen.

And when the ball hit the bat, you just knew.
