Steven Stamkos’ terrific start, new look power play: Lightning film session


The Lightning started the season the way they wanted to.

They swept a two-game series with the rebuilding Blackhawks at Amalie Arena, unveiling their Stanley Cup banner in the process. They showed off their deep offense (10 goals in two games) and a stout penalty kill, which carried them in the playoffs and in the third period of their win Friday.

Steven Stamkos looks terrific.

Cal Foote made a successful debut.

Andrei Vasilevskiy picked up where he left off.

But there was also the team’s first off-ice scare, with backup goaltender Curtis McElhinney their first player to land on the COVID-19 protocol list Saturday. The good news is that no Tampa Bay player was added to the list Sunday, and we should know more Monday when the team returns to practice.
