Steph Curry’s injury: The worst best thing for the Warriors


The Warriors are getting brutalized in the present, with damage noted in the box score and on the training room table. They now find themselves at an inflection point where the present has given way to something else. They now fully embark on the long game.

In the aftermath of the theoretical disaster on Wednesday night, there was a gathering outside the Warriors locker room where Joe, Kirk and Kent Lacob consulted with Bob Myers. When the men of basketball operations broke, the mood wasn’t exactly dour. The ops guys, when you talk to them, express disappointment in how certain aspects of the early season went, and concern about Steph Curry’s broken hand. Still, in the face of all this, there’s an odd lightness to their manner. In a conversation Joe Lacob had with Tim Kawakami and myself he said of the Warriors’ current state, “Potentially, there’s a silver lining in all of this, who knows?”
