Steam Summer Sale 2024 starts this week, will include new "deep discounts" section

In brief: Valve recently began generating excitement for its 2024 summer sale, which starts on Thursday. The event will feature the expected price drops on popular titles, but the company has also teased a new promotion to make the sales more enticing. Additionally, the sale includes a discount on the LCD Steam Deck, which is available now.

The 2024 Steam Summer Sale begins on June 27 at 1 PM ET and lasts until July 11. Although Valve hasn’t revealed the exact discounts, a trailer teased some of the games that will be on sale.

  • Rain World
  • Palworld
  • iRacing
  • Disney Dreamlight Valley
  • Supermarket Simulator
  • Kebab Chefs! Restaurant Simulator
  • Manor Lords
  • Stellaris (which is already 70 percent off at $11.99)
  • The Planet Crafter
  • Content Warning
  • Party Animals
  • Ultimate Chicken Horse
  • Roboquest
  • Batman: Arkham Knight

Valve also confirmed that this year’s event will introduce a “Deep Discounts” section without elaborating. It’s unclear which games will be affected or how low their prices will drop, but a brief clip in the trailer showed tags indicating discounts of 90% and 95%. A grid of titles in the background included games like Celeste, Borderlands 2, Frostpunk, Civilization VI, Doom Eternal, and many more.

The name recalls the daily deals and flash sales from Steam’s early days when sales events temporarily made some discounts steeper than usual. Valve ended this practice several years ago to avoid policy conflicts after introducing refunds, and it remains to be seen if the new deep discounts will be similar.

Meanwhile, the Steam Deck has received an early 15 percent discount on LCD models, lasting until the end of the summer sale. This brings the 64 GB variant below $300 and reduces the price of the 512 GB model to $381.65, a savings of around $70.

One extreme discount that ends as the Steam sale begins slashes all editions of Forza Horizon 4 by 80 percent, making the standard edition available for $11.99 and the ultimate edition for $19.99. Microsoft will delist the game in December, likely for licensing reasons. Individual DLC purchases were delisted on Tuesday, and it is unclear if the game will be on sale during Valve’s major event or for how much.

GOG began its summer sale last week, which, like Steam’s, runs until July 11.
