Staying in a Hotel This Summer? Here Are 10 Tips to Be Safe and Healthy

It’s probably been months since you grabbed a coffee at your go-to spot on your daily commute, let alone cashed in any of those well-deserved vacation days. Many people’s lives — including their work — have been driven indoors amid the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But now, with some retail stores, restaurants, and hotels reopening around the country, you might be starting to think about booking a little getaway. Perhaps a road trip to avoid flying? No matter your destination, hotel stays will likely be involved, but what steps can you take to make sure you’re being smart to keep yourself and others safe and healthy?

“Hotels are actually a very safe place right now,” Chip Rogers, president and CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, who helped create new safety guidelines for hotels to follow during COVID-19, told POPSUGAR. “In fact, a group of medical experts recently released a list of all of the activities that people would want to do this summer. They put them on a scale from one to 10 with 10 being the least safe like an indoor concert and one being the most safe like staying quarantined in your house. Staying at a hotel ranked right up there with golf and camping.”

That said, there are still some precautions you should take when you’re away from home. Here, Rogers shares his top hotel hacks for safe summer travel.
