Stars, Lightning, last 2 standing in 2020, couldn’t be further apart now

When Jamie Oleksiak went on the ice at Amalie Arena on Saturday for the morning skate, there was a championship banner staring through his soul. That was hard to miss.

“Obviously, whenever you see those guys, it brings back memories,” Oleksiak said. “We can’t really look at standings and how things have been going. We just have to focus on the game at hand. I think it’s a chance for us to prove what we did last year wasn’t a fluke.”

For those who believe the Stars’ run to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final — which ended in a Game 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning — was a fluke, Saturday night was fuel to the fire. The Lightning pummeled the Stars 5-0 in a game where the final score doesn’t do the demolition justice. Tampa Bay tried to give the game away throughout the night. Not only did the Stars refuse to take it themselves, they dressed up the platter and served it back to the Lightning.
