Starbucks serves first new pumpkin coffee beverage in 16 years

SEATTLE — Since Starbucks first introduced the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) in 2003, more than 424 million of the autumnal beverages have been served in the United States, according to the company. Now, 16 years later, Starbucks is offering its first new pumpkin coffee beverage since the launch of the PSL.

Following in the footsteps of the fall favorite, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew is made with cold-brew coffee and vanilla topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and a dusting of pumpkin spice topping. The Starbucks R.&D. team developed 10 variations of the beverage before settling on the final recipe, in which “the cold-brew’s cocoa notes are perfectly complemented by flavors of vanilla and real pumpkin, which results in a smooth, well-rounded beverage that balances the flavors of the season without being overly sweet,” Starbucks said.

“With customer excitement for PSL sweeping the nation each fall, we wanted to create a new beverage that combines two of our customers’ favorite things: pumpkin spices and cold brew,” said Matthew Thornton, member of the Starbucks beverage R.&D. team. “With each sip of Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, you’ll enjoy the familiar, creamy, flavor of pumpkin spice followed by a refreshing taste of cold brew, for a cool beverage that will have you wishing it was fall all year long.”

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and PSL are available in Starbucks stores for a limited time starting Aug. 27. The beverages join other autumnal offerings including the salted caramel mocha, pumpkin cream cheese muffin, pumpkin scone, pumpkin spice madeleines and Cat Cake Pop.
